Call for Presentations

For the past 18 years, an audience of engineers and team leaders who use Smalltalk in business, and of students and professors who use Smalltalk for research and teaching, has met annually for the International Smalltalk Conference.

We seek contributions for the 19th conference in Edinburgh:

To submit to the latter two, follow the above links. To submit to the main conference, read on.

What are we looking for?

This year, we especially welcome your experience on using Smalltalk - your achievements, your advances, your problems, your benefits. We also invite tutorials. The list of topics includes, but is not limited to:

  • Applications and experience reports
  • XP practices
  • Development tools
  • Model-driven development
  • Web development
  • Team management
  • Meta-Modeling
  • Security
  • New libraries and frameworks
  • Educational material
  • Embedded systems and robotics
  • Service-oriented Architectures and Web services
  • Interaction with other programming languages

Submission proposals with abstracts are invited by July 1, 2011, as detailed below (notification of acceptance will be provided by July 5). N.B. positions are limited, so please do not wait until the last minute to apply.

Immediately after you present your talk at the conference, your slides and other materials will be collected and put up on the website. Unlike other conferences that demand papers be prepared well in advance, we get maximum value by letting you go on enriching your talk with your latest insights until the day of presentation. (Your talk will also be both recorded and written up.)

How to Submit

Prospective presenters should submit a request to board@esug.org and stephane.ducasse@free.fr following the template below. Please use this template, since emails will be automatically processed; any presentation that does not follow this template will be automatically discarded.

What do I get for being a speaker?

The glory and the fame - and the chance to gain understanding by discussing your system in depth with experts, to discover solutions to problems, to recruit, etc.

Our conference charge is excellent value for 5 conference days and 2 Camp Smalltalk days. This is because many of our speakers are also standard attenders and pay the early-bird fee. However (as well as paying for our invited speakers), we offer a limited number of free-entrance tickets to selected speakers.

To request a free ticket, send your email to board@esug.org as above, but with subject [ESUG 2011 Free Entrance] + your name in the subject line. At the end of the template, add a section "Request for free entrance:" and write a brief explanation relating the value your talk would provide to your need for free entrance.

As always, we greatly appreciate the support to the conference given by the fact that most speakers - funded to attend by their companies or universities, or by themselves - will not request this.
